September 8th - Digging house ducts at Box Tree

Today I joined Pete Simm and team of 6 volunteer diggers at Box Tree. In total there are ~320 properties for the volunteers and B4RN contractors to dig, fit and connect and today's house is number 9. Eric set the team up well, with tarps laid out and the garden wall and house ducts dug. Our goal was to dig a trench from the boundary wall to the house, and lay 7mm duct... and leave Chris' garden as we found it. We had the trench dug, duct laid and back-filled before the rain - perfect time to take shelter in Eric's shed and enjoy Pippa's flapjacks And after the break the team dug another trench. This was my first dig day as a volunteer and it was fun and a great way to get fitter! Pete made it easy for me to be involved, with clear joining instructions, offers of tools and organising the team so we worked well together. Yew Tree Farm has B4RN duct laid and fibre blown!

October 12th Crook's Dig and Fit team (Pete, Eric, Pippa, Boyd, Philip, Jonathan, Liz and our new team member Mike Browning) were at Yew Tree Farm in the mud and rain, with shovels, picks and rakes digging, laying and connecting duct. Pete gave us advanced warning that the forecast for today is poor / awful "with light rain all morning" and to come wearing waterproofs. Today's great result was made possible by Eric and Mike and Gary Poynter working for the two previous days, getting the trenching well underway and reducing the risk of damage. There was some tricky duct threading and connecting to be worked around existing service pipes and measuring to ensure the fibre reached the B4RN box on Yew Tree Farm house wall. Our work was finished in time for B4RN's Frank to blow fibre. Big thanks to Pippa for delicious ginger cake, and to Christine and Hannah Poynter for the best bacon and egg butties and mugs of hot tea. Everyone at Yew Tree Farm is happy that

September 19th, Crook Route 1 complete!

Monday 18th September - a strange piece of equipment has arrived at the Memorial Hall - yes it is Steve Foster's mole plough.... Only another 5 metres and the duct for the complete CK Route 1 from Crosthwaite (High Blakebank) to Crook Memorial Hall, including all the spurs, is complete. Friday September 16th - digging the final leg of CK Route 1. All that remained for Monday was a downhill run to Crook Memorial Hall. Leaving barely a trace of where the duct has been dug and laid. A brilliant job by Steve and Adam over some pretty challenging ground!
