St Catherine's Church Crook - dig powered by Mary's tea & cake!

11 members of Pete Simm's Dig and Fit volunteer team, led by Boyd Gilmore, came out with picks, spades, rakes and tamper to dig a 74m trench and lay ducting through the churchyard and up-to the CCE box on the West wall.

Our big thanks to Mary ...for bringing us tea and delicious lemon drizzle cake from a trolly in the churchyard. I am not certain that the team would have managed the 2nd half of the dig around the large yew tree without Mary's encouragement.

First half - team are full of energy with some nice synchronised picking by Jerry and Pippa

First half saw energetic raking, picking and digging by the team

Trench depth checked & measured before the first half of the duct is laid, the trench filled and gravel replaced, before half time tea.

Second half - team showing signs of tiring legs (and arms) and the digging gets harder around the large yew tree

Did they finish the job by sunset?

Of they course did
and the site was cleared and the team were all home before the rain.

Phillip and Chris still standing and cheerful after a hard afternoon's digging.
